The organization's primary mission is to generate, to investigate deeply, and to distribute forefront knowledge about advanced accelerator and beam physics, especially that knowledge generated as a result of work at Jefferson Lab. A secondary goal for the organization is to provide an organized archive for retaining information generated by Jefferson Laboratory's Accelerator Division activities, so that such information is available to guide future projects Activities The scientific research by CASA members is world leading in a wide variety of topics: Materials studies supporting the improvement of the performance RF superconductivity in cavities Design and operation of superconducting accelerators Design and operation of recirculated and energy recovered electron accelerators Design and operation of high average power photon sources, particularly those that generate ultrashort pulses over a wide variety of wavelengths Development of advanced electron beam diagnostic devices, and advanced methods of controlling accelerators by computerized feedback systems Development of advanced theoretical calculations for predicting beam behavior for a wide variety of physical arrangements Development of advanced accelerator designs for a wide variety of applications based on RF superconductivity and beam recirculation Materials studies in short time scale regimes Professional Development CASA is organized to provide mechanisms for staff development at Jefferson Lab and in the broader scientific community.
